To my UNI students that are looking at this right now:
HEY AND WELCOME! I can't wait to meet all of you and have a great semester! Here are some helpful tips that might help make your first semester at the Dub a little easier (you never know when you might need it! )
Tip #1: Don't be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone. In high school, I was the last person to try anything new and different, and that held me back in the long run. When I came to UNCW, I promised myself that I would try to new things and branch out, and I ended up making some of my best friends and memories that way!
Tip #2: Take advantage of the free events that the school throws for you. There's usually free food and plenty of other freshmen to meet and hang out with. Beach Blast is my favorite event right before school starts. UNCW rents out the South End of Wrightsville and is basically a huge party celebrating the new school year!
Tip #3: The library is great, but not that great. Be sure to find other spaces to study and get your work done during the school year before exams start because you won't be able to find a seat in Randall come December! I suggest the Skywalk that connects the two Fisher buildings or the area outside of Dub City Brew (aka Starbucks).
Tip #4: Get a classmate's phone number in every class. You never know when you might have to miss class and need to get caught up!
Tip #5: USE YOUR RESOURCES! You have so many opportunities on campus to get help with whatever you may need. If you ever have any questions, I know a thing or two about UNCW and can probably help (just don't be afraid to ask!)
Tip #6: Wash your sheets. Take out your garbage. Brush your teeth. Set multiple alarms. Crack open your textbooks every once and a while. Call your parents. Get some sleep. Have fun! College is only 4 years, (if you're lucky) so do everything you can to make the most of it!
